Subaru Recalls Sedans and SUVs to Address Backup Camera and Reverse Light Issues

Subaru has recently announced a voluntary recall of several sedan and SUV models to address issues with backup cameras and reverse lights. The recall affects a significant number of vehicles, and Subaru is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers.

The problem revolves around a potential malfunction in the backup camera system, which may cause the camera display to not function correctly or become distorted. This issue could lead to reduced visibility when reversing, increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, there have been reports of reverse lights failing to illuminate properly when the vehicle is put into reverse gear.

Subaru has identified the affected models, which include certain Subaru Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and Ascent vehicles manufactured within specific production periods. Owners of these vehicles will be notified by mail and are advised to schedule an appointment with their local Subaru dealership for a free inspection and necessary repairs.

During the inspection, Subaru technicians will assess the backup camera system and reverse lights, making any required adjustments or replacements to ensure proper functionality. The repairs will be carried out at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Subaru is committed to providing the highest level of safety and quality to their customers. They apologize for any inconvenience caused by this recall and are dedicated to resolving the issue promptly and efficiently. Vehicle owners are urged to take immediate action to address the problem and ensure their safety on the road.

Subaru has recalled more than 95,000 vehicles due to a potential defective weld that may allow water to enter the inhibitor switch, causing it to fail and preventing the reverse lights and backup camera to fail.

The recall covers model year 2021 Crosstreks, model year 2022 Foresters, and model year 2021-2023 Legacys, and Outbacks, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Car owners with these vehicles can have the inhibitor switch replaced by a Subaru dealer free of charge.

Subaru is mailing owner notification letters on Jan. 8, 2024, and consumers can also call the company’s customer service at (800) 782-2783. The number for the recall is WRQ-23.
